- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the spaghetti.
- In the same pot, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the garlic slices and red pepper flakes, sautéing until the garlic is golden brown but not burned, about 1-2 minutes.
- Add the drained spaghetti to the pot, tossing to coat in the garlic oil.
- If the pasta seems dry, gradually add reserved pasta water to achieve the desired consistency.
- Stir in the chopped parsley and season with salt to taste.
- Serve immediately, with freshly grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
